The rule of law in Africa relies on effective access to the letter of the law. The African Legal Information Institute, AfricanLII, is proud to launch the beta version of a first-of-it’s-kind Pan-African automated legal citator and summarizer for African caselaw - the Citator.

In March 2019, AfricanLII announced that we would soon be launching a beta version of our new Citator application that has been in development since last year.

If you’ve been doing legal research for some time, you are probably familiar with the concept of a citator. A citator is a tool that shows you all the cases that a judgment referred to, as well as all the later decisions that cited that judgment (noter-uppers).
